Working in epoxy resin and fiberglass, Kevlar (TM), and carbon fiber fabrics over wood or foam cores shaped on a 3 axis CNC milling machine. Contact us for prototype development or other one-off projects suitable for this technology (including duplication of simple 3D objects). We use 3D CAD/CAM software that is able to import most popular design file formats.
We are a full services composite fabrication shop. We can build tooling (male plugs, female molds), and have done several industrial projects as well (see our parent company Competition Composites Inc www.fastcomposites.ca )
The milling machine may also be used for pattern cutting in foam or plywood, up to a 4'x8' area with 6" vertical plunge - see our page on panel cutting.
On this page you'll find examples of:
Simple foil sections, in this case 2 rudder templates and one keel template for the S2 7.9:

A set with a "hook" leading edge, plus a male pattern for the bottom of the foil:

We use positive pressure techniques, often in custom-milled female molds, to make tubes in any cross section you could want.
These tubes were done over an inflated bladder in a milled mold. They replace the aluminum struts supporting the hiking racks for an I-14:

A tube of a different sort - an asymmetrical hydrofoil, molded under pressure. Hollow and seamless. How cool is that?
Compared to the standard aluminum tube, our molded carbon fiber mastrams are like carbon jewelry for your boat - and they present a much lower drag profile to the wind!

Can't find the correct headstock for your application? We may be able to provide a custom solution in carbon fiber or fiberglass. You know it will be light and strong!
Send us a simplified 3D cad file of your design, and we'll mill it out of high density tooling foam, sand out the machining marks, and prime. The rest is up to you. The simpler the better please! The goal is not a detailed model, but an accurate representation that your customer can hold in their hands and get a sense of proportion. (We've also done these as plugs for model yacht molds)
One of the first model orders - 1/10th scale Mini 6.5

And another Mini, this one at 1/12th scale.

Scale model (1/20th) of a 58' motor yacht. The number of fine details (thin cabin sides & top, window frames, toe rails, etc) made this one very labor intensive.
This one came in at 28" x 7" x 4" - the very fine bulwarks had to be laminated separately from fiberglass and then faired in. Another surprise once We'd started!

A fleet of 3 new 37's (1/20th scale) - level of detail was perfect for milling:

Want something similar - think in terms of $CDN 350.00 in this size range.
Here's a 1/12th model of a 5o5 exactly as it came off the milling machine:

Looking for something different in a trophy? Give us a call.
Below are (1) simple line drawing plaques (v-bit carved on the CNC), (2) scaled down 49er rudder on a carbon background, and (3) clear acrylic full scale 5o5 rudder (we carved the acrylic on that one, another shop buffed it and built the case).

Refinishing your centerplate? Faired pieces milled from marine ply can be provided for you to epoxy on for an improved foil section. Shown below for a Grampion 26
