| Rudder
This design is in response to a couple of customers that wanted to update their Santana 21's. We settled on a design that is slightly higher in aspect ratio, with an elliptical leading edge. Wetted area and center of effort remain approximately the same as the original.
The graphic below illustrates the difference between the updated rudder (red) and the original (blue). For anyone requiring a rudder built to the original design, that too is available. |

Feedback letter from the first customer(s):
Hi Phil;
Believe me the only thing the old rudders are worth is firewood. So, so poor compared to your foil.
Since I have installed it the boat has three bullets. My wife, who is a non-sailor won the Sweetheart Handicap by a minute twenty. I let a friend drive during a beer can race which he rounded the mark backwards, 4 boats were yelling at us as we were coming down...so we dropped the chute, turned around, rounded the mark correctly and still beat them by minutes...they were not vary happy with us at the pizza parlor that night. Last Saturday in the first race I beat the next PHRF boat by eight minutes(non corrected). Following that up with two thirds(just can't keep up with those S20s in vary light air, heck they weight 900lb less). Have not seen the results yet but at worst I will be tied for first for our Fall Series.
Tim is also vary happy with his...Sell that guy a new rudder, its worth it.
