Rudders for Mirage Yachts

The manufacturer is long gone, but Phil's Foils can build your replacement rudders!

If you don't see your model here, we can still help - drawings are available for the larger Mirage yachts, or a sister boat can be located and measured.

Mirage 24

Design: MRG24R
rudder

This design arrived in the form of a customer showing up with two halves (port and starboard) of an otherwise good looking Mirage 24 rudder.   This made it easy to measure it up and build a new core around his existing post.

Rudder price:

Add $250 if new post needed.

The finished rudder at right, in gloss white above the waterline and epoxy primer below the waterline.

Mirage 25

Design: MRG25R
rudder

This design came from duplicating as carefully as possible the customer's current rudder (it was delaminating and had taken on a lot of water).

The core is milled out of douglas fir, both for strength and to match the original weight, with a light lamination of fiberglass for waterproofing.

Shown ready for antifouling.

This particular rudder came with an attached swim platform that needed refurbishing.  All wood was replaced with birch plywood encapsulated in fiberglass and epoxy.   Nonskid was added to the paint.

The above waterline portion was painted in an offwhite to match the customer's hull.

Mirage 26

Design: MRG26R
rudder

As with the Mirage 25 above, this design came from measuring a damaged rudder that was sent in by the customer - fairly straightforward, but it was missing the bottom 10 inches!  We had to fill in the blanks from the available line drawings, but the result looks right, and is a definite improvement on what he'd sent in originally.

Shown with gloss Awlgrip above the waterline, and white epoxy primer below.

Rudder price:

Add $300 if new post needed.

Customer says [Feb '05]: Phil, your magnificent creation arrived in Fredericton today and my wife brought it down here this evening.  I haven't finished fondling it yet (the rudder, that is).  Great work.

It has been a genuine pleasure doing business.  If I can send any more your way I shall do so.

Regards,

Mike
