The first customer sent his original (broken) rudder up and requested
that a replacement be made that was lighter and stronger with a more
refined foil section, while keeping to the original planform to meet
one-design rules.
The replacement was done with a substantial carbon fiber layup over a
balsa core - balsa being chosen over foam due to its higher compressive
strength.
