| Rudder
This design came from a customer in Ireland - it pushes the class measurement tolerances a bit to reduce the sweepback angle. Red cedar core with mahogany insert for the mandrel area. Carbon fiber reinforcement in the high stress areas. Customer to provide or install own mandrel. Shown below in a graphite finish. |

Hi Phil!
We ended up second in class at the worlds. We made a last minute decision to sail in the silver fleet which we qualified for due to the age of our boat. In retrospect we should have sailed in the modern fleet which we had qualified for despite the boats age and I think we would have been extremely competitive in the light airs.
The rudder performs excellently and ended up right down to weight after the stock was epoxied in.
The section shape seems to give an increased resistance to stall on tight reaches which has been a problem for the heavily swept fifteen rudder, although we had little wind to really test this tactically at the worlds. The plan form is nicely optimized within class rules thanks to the tight tolerances you worked to.
If I were to do it again?, I would not change anything technically, except possibly asking you to paint it.
Thanks again
John
