| Centerboard: FB01CB | |
|
Kevlar and Eglass over Western Red Cedar. "Classic" head style. This board tweaks the aspect ratio as much as possible within class rules, for the best lift-to-drag ratio possible (enhanced by the rounded tip). 28.5 mm max thickness unless otherwise specified. Gybing head style also available. Shown at right in white painted finish. A centerboard I hand shaped and fabricated to these same specifications last year has proven to be very fast. Winner of 2002 Fanfare in Sept, 3rd in the 2003 Fireball Midwinter, 3rd at the Nepean One Design. Have a look at the flex tests lower on this page - how stiff do you want your board? |

Kevlar and Eglass over Western Red Cedar. As with FB01CB, this board tweaks the aspect ratio as much as possible within class rules, for the best lift-to-drag ratio possible (enhanced by the rounded tip). The only real difference between the two is the square head, made popular in DeLange and Winder fireballs. 28.5 mm max thickness unless otherwise specified. Gybing head style also available. Shown at right in a custom two-tone Alwgrip finish. Have a look at the flex tests lower on this page - how stiff do you want your board? |

| Kick-up style configured for a
conventional headstock. Semi-balanced, with a fine entry at
the waterline for low drag. Kevlar and eglass over red cedar core,

Phil, the rudder made it this morning – NICE! Thanks again…I can’t wait to get out this weekend.

I flex test my centerboards in a special jig that applies pressure along the entire underside and use my milling machine to take exact deflection measurements every inch along the length. The 100Kg side load shown is much greater than you'd ever see while sailing, but is useful for accentuating the differences between the different centerboards.
While I can't guarantee that the centerboards I've measured are representative of the typical board built by the indicated manufacturer, I also have no reason to believe that they wouldn't be.
The curve "Phil #1" is my softer layup, and works great if you sail with a lighter crew (I use it myself). "Phil #2" is for the average sailor, and has a flex curve very similar to the Winder. If desired I can also tailer a stiffer board if you sail with a heavy crew, but stiff boards have somewhat gone out of fashion in the class.
