Doing a Transpac or other long distance race and need a custom emergency rudder?   This is the place to come.

Design: NM68R
Emergency Rudder

At 84" x 13.5" this rudder will hang in a gantry with dagger-style cassette off the back of a Nelson/Marek 68, in preparation for the 2005 running of the Transpac.

Carbon over a mixed foam & cedar core, with epoxy primer below the waterline and Awlgrip above.

The customer was so pleased with it that a year later he ordered an identical one for a sister boat.

Design: TP52R
Emergency Rudder

One of the first big jobs for Phil's Foils, this design came from a customer that needed an emergency rudder in order to pass pre-race inspection for the Transpac.

The rudder itself is a foam and cedar core with several laminations of carbon fiber over it, and a graphite/epoxy finish.   The daggerboard style case has lots of carbon fiber reinforcement, and hangs off of a modified backstay tang on the transom.   The reverse tiller uses lines to the corners of the transom for steering.

Feedback:

Phil,
Just wanted to drop a line and say thanks........

based on some awful 'back-of-the-napkin' drawings, you did a knockout job in
a very tight timespan!

Thank you!

The bad news: if everything goes well for the boys on their way to
Hawaii......your 'work' will NEVER see the light of day!?!? (One of those
'mixed blessing' kinda things!)

Cheers!
Tom
