| Rudder
This customer has requested a deeper rudder for his Contour 34 while
still using his original stainless kickup headstock. To
handle the higher loads while staying with the original 1.35"
headstock width
this rudder has been fabricated with a substantial carbon fiber layup
over a laminated wood core.

Customer Feedback: the first customer was kind enough to forward to me an email he'd sent to a fellow Contour 34 owner - " I got in contact with Phil Foil's regarding making a longer rudder for the Corsair rudder assembly. We got to talking and he said that even though the Contour rudder was much thinner than the Corsair rudder he could make a stronger and longer rudder blade to fit the Contour rudder assembly. Anyway, getting to the point. Following is a picture of the rudder he can up with. I'm still adjusting the installation. I'm very happy with it and will update everybody as I get a chance to push the boat and rudder. You should consider a new Phil's rudder if your current rudder is damaged."
and later:
"The new rudder is performing link a charm. The original rudder has a lot of weather helm in winds over 17 knots. In winds over 20 knots you get a workout with the tiller. This rudder is balances and you will be happy to get finger tip steering in winds from 17 to 25 knots."
Below is a photo the first customer sent of the rudder installed on his boat.
This is another pair of Contour 34 rudders ready to go out.The one at right is Awlgrip'd above the waterline, and left in white epoxy primer for the wetted section.
Shown below is a custom design done for a customer who wanted to go slightly deeper and also update the planform with a modern semi-elliptical shape. The drawing compares the stock design with the new one.

The new daggerboard in the spray booth:

Customer says: "Phil, just got the board. looks great. maybe too nice to use. No damage with shipping. Will let you know how it sails hopefully this weekend. I have posted all the pictures and info on the yahoo groups Contour 34 site. Dan" and later "Hey Phil, the board is working great."
And here's one of the stock design. The customer, who previously bought a rudder from Phil's Foils, came back for a new daggerboard. He ordered it laminated but not faired; he was going to complete it himself.

He had this to say: "I got the board the other day. It looks great. Thanks, Cortenay"
